Two ways to get a smooth, painted-look door, at genuinely different price points and with genuinely different upkeep.
The short answer
A 2-pack door is sprayed with a genuine paint finish over an MDF substrate, giving a true matte or gloss painted look that can be colour-matched precisely and repaired by re-spraying if damaged. A laminate door has a factory-applied decorative laminate sheet, which is generally more affordable and highly consistent, but cannot be re-sprayed or precisely colour-matched if a repair or change is needed later.
How each is actually made
2-pack is a two-component paint system sprayed onto a primed MDF door in a factory or specialist facility, cured to a hard, durable finish. Laminate is a decorative sheet — melamine or a higher-grade laminate — pressed onto a board substrate, factory-finished and consistent from door to door.
Repair and future changes
A 2-pack door can be re-sprayed to repair damage or even change colour years later, provided you can match the original process. A laminate door generally cannot be re-finished — damage usually means replacing the door.
Cost and consistency
Laminate is generally more affordable and extremely consistent in colour and finish, since it is factory-applied to a standard. 2-pack costs more, reflecting the labour-intensive spray-and-cure process, and can have very minor sheen or colour variation between production runs.

Both are durable under normal use when done to a good standard. 2-pack can be re-sprayed if damaged; laminate generally needs the door replaced if it is significantly damaged.
Is laminate cheaper than 2-pack?
Generally yes — laminate's factory-applied process is less labour-intensive than the spray-and-cure process 2-pack requires.
Can a 2-pack door be repainted a different colour later?
Yes, in principle — a 2-pack finish can be re-sprayed, which is one of its genuine advantages over laminate for a kitchen you expect to update rather than replace.
Which looks more premium, 2-pack or laminate?
A quality 2-pack finish is often perceived as more premium due to its true painted depth and the ability to achieve a very fine matte or gloss, though high-grade laminates have narrowed that gap considerably.
