Why the base kitchen is already good
Essence, the entry collection, is not a stripped-down kitchen — it is 18mm moisture-resistant carcasses, laser-bonded edging and Blum soft-close hinges and runners, the same three things that actually decide how long a kitchen lasts. Nothing about starting at $15,000 means starting with a lesser board or a lesser hinge. It means a 20mm engineered stone benchtop and a handleless or slimline profile, done properly, with nothing yet spent on the parts that are optional.
Stone and benchtop upgrades
Engineered stone in a wider slab or a feature colour, a mitred waterfall edge instead of a square one, or a step up to porcelain or a book-matched natural stone slab. This is usually the single highest-impact upgrade in the kitchen, because it is the surface a hand touches and an eye lands on before anything else. Hardware and hinges
Blum soft-close is standard on every collection. The upgrade path from there is Blum Legrabox drawers with integrated organisers, solid brass or bronze handles in place of a standard profile, and push-to-open on the runs where a handle would interrupt a handleless line. None of it changes how the carcass is built; all of it changes how the kitchen feels to use every day.
Light and detail
Integrated LED task lighting under every overhead, a lit toe-kick, or a feature pendant over an island — the kind of detail that reads as considered rather than added later. Cheap to specify at drawing stage and disproportionately expensive to retrofit once the cabinetry is built, so this is worth deciding early even if you delay paying for it.
How to order it
Send the room dimensions as normal and say which upgrades you want considered — the quote comes back with the base kitchen and each upgrade as its own line, so you can add or drop any of them before you sign off. Nothing is bundled in a way that hides what it costs.

No. Every collection starts from the same 18mm moisture-resistant carcasses and Blum hardware. Upgrades change the benchtop, the hardware finish and the lighting — the parts you see and touch — not the structure underneath.
What is the highest-impact upgrade for the money?
Usually the benchtop. It is the largest single surface in the room and the one a hand and an eye meet first, so a stone or porcelain upgrade tends to change how the whole kitchen reads more than any other single line.
Can I add upgrades after ordering the base kitchen?
Before sign-off, yes — the quote is revised until you are happy and nothing is cut until you sign the drawing. After sign-off, changes are a new order rather than an amendment.
Do upgrades work on a flat pack order?
Yes. Stone is templated on site regardless of whether the carcasses arrive flat or assembled, and hardware and lighting upgrades are fitted the same way in either case.
Is an upgraded Essence kitchen the same as a Maison kitchen?
Not quite — Maison and Atelier also change the door profile, the carcass finishes available and the level of joinery detail. But a well-upgraded Essence kitchen closes much of that gap for a lot less than moving up a full collection.

Carcasses built square on a bench, Blum hardware fitted, doors hung and adjusted to even gaps. On site you are fixing finished cabinets to a wall, not building them on the floor. Our own team fits it in Central Queensland; your installer fits it anywhere else in Australia. Prefer to build it yourself? The same kitchen ships flat pack.
