Plates on edge,
pots that stop nesting.

Stacked plates mean lifting four to reach the fifth. Nested pots mean the one you want is at the bottom. Both are drawer problems with the same fix.

How do peg systems work?

Movable pegs sit in a grid in the base of a deep drawer. You set them around a stack of plates or a pot so the item is held upright and cannot slide when the drawer moves. Because the pegs move, the layout changes when your crockery does, which matters more than it sounds over ten years.

Why not keep plates in an overhead?

Plenty of people do, and if you are tall and the cupboard is at a sensible height it works. A drawer wins on reach, because you look down into it rather than up and blind. It also wins on safety, since a stack of plates at shoulder height is the most dangerous thing in most kitchens.

Will a drawer take the weight?

That depends on the runner specified for the drawer, and the rating for your job is on the quote rather than estimated here. A plate drawer is one of the heaviest in a kitchen, so it is a place where the runner specification earns its money. Runner load ratings covers how that number is arrived at.

Where should the plate drawer go?

Near the dishwasher if you can, because that is the journey you make most. Second choice is near where you plate up. The worst place is the far end of the run from both, which is where it usually ends up if nobody plans it.

How does it arrive?

If you order delivered assembled it is fitted and adjusted before the carton is closed. Flat packed, it arrives with the cabinet it belongs to and you fit it as you build that cabinet.

Why this matters when you pick who builds it

Nothing above is exotic. It is the ordinary detail of specifying a kitchen properly, and the reason it is written down is that most quotes do not account for any of it. A cabinet maker who has not thought about the clearance on your corner, the runner rating under your pot drawer or the trap under your sink will still quote you a number — it will just be a number for a kitchen that works less well than it could have. We draw these decisions into the plan before anything is cut, on every kitchen, at every price. That is what you are actually choosing when you choose who to buy from.

Ask us directly →
What is a plate peg system?

Movable pegs set into the base of a deep drawer that hold plates upright so they cannot slide when the drawer opens.

Are plates better in a drawer or a cupboard?

A drawer, for reach and for safety. You look down into a drawer rather than up into a cupboard, and a heavy stack at shoulder height is worth avoiding.

Can the pegs be moved later?

That is the point of them. The layout resets when your crockery changes.

Where is the best place for a plate drawer?

Near the dishwasher, because unloading is the trip you make most often.

In their words

The people who already
cook in one.

“For what we paid compared to what similar kitchens were costing elsewhere, we’re extremely happy with it.”
Sarah Wallace

“Could not be happier with our kitchen. The funny thing is, pretty much everyone who’s come over since we installed it has asked who did our kitchen and assumed we spent a lot more than we actually did.”
Brian T.

“Once we saw it in person, it was a pretty easy decision. It looked even better than we expected.”
