The top shelf,
brought down to you.
Most people stop using the top shelf of an overhead within a month of moving in. This is the fitting that gets it back.

What does a pull-down wall basket actually do?
It is a two-tier wire or steel basket mounted inside a wall cabinet on a sprung arm. You pull the handle, the basket swings down and forward, and what was at head height is now in front of you at about bench level. Let go and it returns. The whole point is the shelf you cannot see into, which in most kitchens is holding things you bought once.
Who gets the most out of one?
Anyone shorter than the cabinetry, which is most people, and anyone who does not want to keep a step stool in the kitchen. It is also one of the few fittings that genuinely helps in an accessible kitchen, because it brings storage down rather than asking the person to go up. In a rental or a granny flat it earns its place differently: it makes a small kitchen hold more without a bigger footprint.
What does it cost you in cupboard space?
Some. The mechanism takes room at the sides and the basket cannot be as deep as the cabinet, so you lose a little capacity in exchange for being able to use what is left. In a 600mm or 900mm overhead that trade is usually worth it. In a narrow cabinet it is usually not, and we will say so.
What will it safely hold?
Everyday crockery, glassware, packets and jars — which is what lives in an overhead anyway. The rated figure for the unit specified on your job is printed on your quote rather than estimated here. What does not belong up there is the heaviest thing in your kitchen: cast iron goes in a deep drawer, near the floor, where lifting it is easiest.
How does it arrive?
If you order delivered assembled it is fitted and adjusted before the carton is closed. Flat packed, it arrives with the cabinet it belongs to and you fit it as you build that cabinet.
Why this matters when you pick who builds it
Nothing above is exotic. It is the ordinary detail of specifying a kitchen properly, and the reason it is written down is that most quotes do not account for any of it. A cabinet maker who has not thought about the clearance on your corner, the runner rating under your pot drawer or the trap under your sink will still quote you a number — it will just be a number for a kitchen that works less well than it could have. We draw these decisions into the plan before anything is cut, on every kitchen, at every price. That is what you are actually choosing when you choose who to buy from.
- Mounts inside a standard wall cabinet
- Comes down to roughly bench height
- Returns under its own spring
- Specified to your cabinet width
- Quoted as its own line, never bundled

Frequently asked
Pull-down wall basket — questions
If your question is not here, call the studio. We would rather talk it through than have you guess.
Ask us directly →What is a pull-down wall basket?
A sprung basket inside an overhead cabinet that swings down and forward when you pull it, bringing the top shelf to about bench height.
Does it fit any wall cabinet?
It needs a reasonable width to work properly. We check it against your cabinet sizes when we draw the kitchen and tell you if the cabinet you have in mind is too narrow.
Is it worth it in a small kitchen?
Often more than in a large one. A small kitchen cannot add cupboards, so making the existing overheads fully usable is one of the few ways to add real capacity.
Can I add one later?
Yes, if the cabinet suits it. It is easier and cheaper to specify at the time of order, because the cabinet can be built around it.
In their words
The people who already
cook in one.
“For what we paid compared to what similar kitchens were costing elsewhere, we’re extremely happy with it.”
Rockhampton
“Could not be happier with our kitchen. The funny thing is, pretty much everyone who’s come over since we installed it has asked who did our kitchen and assumed we spent a lot more than we actually did.”
Gladstone
“Once we saw it in person, it was a pretty easy decision. It looked even better than we expected.”
