A deep drawer
that is not just a pile.
Deep drawers are the best thing to happen to kitchens in thirty years, and an empty one turns into a single heap within a fortnight.

Why do deep drawers beat cupboards?
Because the whole contents come to you. A cupboard of the same volume makes you kneel and reach past the front row to find anything at the back, and the back is where things go to be forgotten. Pot drawers versus cupboards goes through the comparison properly, including the cost difference, which is real.
What goes inside one?
Dividers that stand pots apart so they do not nest, rails that hold lids upright instead of flat, and a non-slip base so nothing travels when the drawer closes. The dividers matter most. A pot inside a pot is two items you have to move to reach the third.
Where should the heavy things go?
Low, in a deep drawer, every time. The heaviest items belong near the floor where you lift with your legs rather than your back and anything dropped has the shortest distance to fall. It is one of the few storage decisions that is about your body rather than your kitchen, and it is the reason we draw the pot drawers before anything else in the run.
What decides whether it works?
The runner. A deep drawer full of cast iron is the hardest-working part of a kitchen and the first place an under-specified runner shows up, usually as a drag on one side that gets worse. The rating specified for your drawers is on the quote; runner load ratings explains what the number means.
How does it arrive?
If you order delivered assembled it is fitted and adjusted before the carton is closed. Flat packed, it arrives with the cabinet it belongs to and you fit it as you build that cabinet.
Why this matters when you pick who builds it
Nothing above is exotic. It is the ordinary detail of specifying a kitchen properly, and the reason it is written down is that most quotes do not account for any of it. A cabinet maker who has not thought about the clearance on your corner, the runner rating under your pot drawer or the trap under your sink will still quote you a number — it will just be a number for a kitchen that works less well than it could have. We draw these decisions into the plan before anything is cut, on every kitchen, at every price. That is what you are actually choosing when you choose who to buy from.
- Dividers so pots stand apart
- Rails that hold lids upright
- Non-slip base so nothing travels
- Runner rating stated on the quote
- Quoted as its own line

Frequently asked
Deep drawer fit-out — questions
If your question is not here, call the studio. We would rather talk it through than have you guess.
Ask us directly →What should go in a deep kitchen drawer?
Pots, pans, lids and the heavy things, with dividers so they stand apart rather than nesting inside each other.
Are deep drawers better than cupboards?
For access, clearly. The contents come to you instead of you reaching past the front row. They cost more, which is the honest trade.
Where should heavy items go?
Low down, in a deep drawer. You lift with your legs rather than your back and anything dropped has less distance to fall.
What makes a deep drawer fail?
An under-specified runner. A loaded drawer is the hardest-working part of a kitchen and a weak runner shows up as drag on one side.
In their words
The people who already
cook in one.
“For what we paid compared to what similar kitchens were costing elsewhere, we’re extremely happy with it.”
Rockhampton
“Could not be happier with our kitchen. The funny thing is, pretty much everyone who’s come over since we installed it has asked who did our kitchen and assumed we spent a lot more than we actually did.”
Gladstone
“Once we saw it in person, it was a pretty easy decision. It looked even better than we expected.”

Carcasses built square on a bench, Blum hardware fitted, doors hung and adjusted to even gaps. On site you are fixing finished cabinets to a wall, not building them on the floor. Our own team fits it in Central Queensland; your installer fits it anywhere else in Australia. Prefer to build it yourself? The same kitchen ships flat pack.
