Replacing a benchtop alone is generally driven by material choice, total surface area, edge profile and cut-outs for a sink and cooktop — not by cabinet cost, since the cabinets stay. Engineered stone and laminate sit at different ends of the cost range for the same area, and a waterfall edge or a mitred join adds meaningfully more than a standard square edge.
What actually drives the price on a benchtop-only job

Existing cabinets being reused, rather than replaced, is what keeps this job smaller than a full renovation.
Templating has to happen on site
A new benchtop is measured and templated against your actual existing cabinets after they are confirmed level and square, not from the old benchtop's dimensions — worth building a short lead time into your plan for this step before the new benchtop is fabricated.
When benchtop-only makes sense, and when it does not
