Commonly cited Australian industry figures put a national average kitchen renovation somewhere around the low-to-mid $40,000s, with capital city mid-range renovations often quoted between roughly $28,000 and $45,000 — but these figures blend enormous variation in size, finish level and location into a single number that may not resemble your actual kitchen. Why a national average hides more than it reveals
A national figure blends a $15,000 apartment galley kitchen with a $90,000 architectural rebuild into one misleading midpoint. It is a useful sense of scale for a first conversation, and a poor basis for budgeting your specific project.
What actually moves the number for your kitchen
Size (how many linear metres of cabinetry), specification tier, benchtop material, and whether it is installed by a local team or supplied to your own installer all matter more than which state or city you live in — see the price bands for how these interact.
Freight is the one genuinely regional variable
Unlike most of the cost, freight does vary meaningfully with location — see shipping and freight for how that specific line is calculated, separately from the cabinetry price itself.
