The short answer
A standard base cabinet with a single door and shelf costs less than a wide drawer bank, which costs less again than a tall pantry unit or a corner cabinet with a carousel mechanism fitted. Thinking cabinet by cabinet, rather than purely by linear metre, is a genuinely useful way to understand where a kitchen budget actually goes — a run of five simple base cabinets and a run of five drawer banks are very different prices for the same wall length.
What makes one cabinet cost more than another
Drawers cost more than a single door and shelf, because of the runners and drawer box construction involved. Why unit count alone still is not a full quote
Two kitchens with the same number of cabinets can differ substantially in price if one is all simple base units and the other is heavy with drawer banks, tall units and corner solutions. Benchtop, splashback and hardware upgrades sit on top of the cabinetry cost entirely separately.
Where to spend, if the budget is tight
Prioritising drawers over low cupboards in the highest-use zones, and a proper corner solution over a fixed shelf, tend to matter more to daily usability than an extra cabinet elsewhere — worth discussing trade-offs at design stage rather than cutting evenly across the whole kitchen.
