Cut to your drawing · freighted to Cygnet

Cygnet orders,
cut to the millimetre.

A kitchen cut to your measurements rather than picked from catalogue widths, packed flat for the run to Cygnet or delivered with the doors already hung and adjusted.

The short answer

Kitchens for Cygnet are drawn in Rockhampton from the measurements you send, approved by you before anything is cut, then packed flat or assembled and freighted south then by sea across Bass Strait. The quote itemises every cabinet, the benchtop by material and metre, the hardware by brand and the freight separately. We supply only — your trades install it.

What brief does Cygnet actually set?

Out here a missing bracket is not an inconvenience, it is a fortnight. Everything is packed against a numbered drawing and checked before it leaves, because the cost of getting it wrong is measured in distance rather than dollars. Cold, damp winters in a lot of uninsulated older housing, which is where cheap board fails first.

What is the run to Cygnet?

Your kitchen is cut in Rockhampton and freighted south then by sea across Bass Strait. Flat cartons are labelled to a numbered drawing, one per cabinet where possible, with doors and fronts wrapped separately and the Blum hardware bagged against the cabinet it belongs to. Assembled orders arrive as finished boxes, doors hung and adjusted, which takes more truck space and shows as a higher freight line. Both are on the same quote so the choice is a number rather than a guess.

Who fits it in Cygnet?

Your builder, carpenter or kitchen installer, plus a licensed plumber and a licensed electrician for their parts. Ask each for a licence number and check it yourself — in Tasmania that is Consumer, Building and Occupational Services. Every order ships with dimensioned service drawings showing each waste, water point and outlet, so the trades rough in to the plan rather than to a guess. Our install guide sets out the three trades and the fixed order they work in.

Why is the benchtop quoted separately?

Laminate ships with the kitchen. Stone does not, and it should not: a stone benchtop is templated off the cabinets after they are installed and level, by a fabricator near you in Cygnet, because a slab cut to a drawing rather than to the room is a slab that does not fit. We quote the cabinetry and the laminate; for stone we tell you the cut-out sizes and the fabricator works from the installed run.

What actually ships with the order?

A numbered plan and elevations, a service drawing marking every waste, water point and outlet for your Cygnet plumber and electrician, the hardware bagged per cabinet, kickboards and end panels cut to length, and fillers where the room needs them. Nothing on that list is an extra. The service drawing in particular is what stops a cabinet being cut on site to clear a pipe nobody planned for.

What should be ready before the kitchen lands?

The old kitchen out, the floor as level as it is going to get, walls patched and painted where the cabinets will not cover them, and the plumber and electrician booked for the days after the fit rather than the same day. Painting after the cabinetry is in is slower and the cut-in never looks as good. Our installation guide sets out the order of trades.

Where else do you ship in Hobart and the South?

We ship to Kingston, New Norfolk, Huonville, Sorell, Brighton, Geeveston, Oatlands on the same route. The Hobart and the South page covers the region, and Tasmania covers the state.

The specification

Built for this
climate, not a catalogue.

Kitchens here are warm and steamy for a few hours and cold for the rest. That cycling is what lifts glued edging off a panel, and it is the single best argument for the specification we ship as standard.

The same three questions decide any kitchen anywhere: board thickness and moisture rating, edging method, hardware brand. Ours are 18mm moisture-resistant, laser-bonded and Blum, and they are printed on every quote. How to judge a flat pack.

Standard on everything
  • 18mm moisture-resistant board
  • Laser-bonded edging, no glue line
  • Blum soft-close hinges and runners
  • Cut to your drawing, not catalogue widths
  • Pre-drilled and labelled per cabinet
  • Fixed itemised quote, freight its own line

Frequently asked

Cygnet — questions

If your question is not here, call the studio. We would rather talk it through than have you guess.

Ask us directly →
Do you deliver flat pack kitchens to Cygnet?

Yes. Cygnet is served south then by sea across Bass Strait, and freight is quoted to your postcode as its own line on the quote rather than folded into the cabinetry price.

Do you install kitchens in Cygnet?

No. Our own installation team works Central Queensland only. In Cygnet your builder, carpenter or kitchen installer fits it, working from the dimensioned service drawings that ship with every order. Our install guide covers the three trades and the order they work in.

Should I order flat pack or assembled to Cygnet?

Both are quoted on the same drawing. Flat cartons ship for less and get through tight doorways; assembled arrives with carcasses built and doors adjusted so your installer is fitting rather than building. Over this distance most Hobart and the South orders go flat.

Who can do the plumbing and electrical in Cygnet?

A licensed plumber and a licensed electrician, and you should check both licences yourself before they start. In Tasmania, Consumer, Building and Occupational Services is the register to check against.

What board and hardware do you use?

18mm moisture-resistant board, laser-bonded edging and Blum soft-close hinges and runners on every cabinet, in every state. The specification is printed on your quote so you can hold it against anything else you are offered.

Can I see a sample before ordering in Cygnet?

Yes. Door, board and edging samples are posted out, and for most people that settles the colour question better than a screen does. Ask when you send the dimensions through.

Delivered assembled

The assembly is done
before it arrives.

Carcasses built square on a bench, Blum hardware fitted, doors hung and adjusted to even gaps. On site you are fixing finished cabinets to a wall, not building them on the floor. Your builder or installer levels it, fixes it and fits the benchtop, working from our drawings. Prefer to build it yourself? The same kitchen ships flat pack.
