Fitted to the drawer,
not rattling around in it.
A drawer of loose jewellery is a drawer you sort through. Compartments sized for what goes in them is the whole difference.

Why fitted rather than bought?
Because a drawer in joinery drawn to your room is almost never a standard width. An off-the-shelf tray leaves a gap, and the tray travels every time the drawer closes — which, in a drawer of jewellery, means everything ends up in one corner. An insert cut to the drawer fills it wall to wall and stays where it is.
What goes in which compartment?
The useful split is by shape rather than by category: long and thin for chains and watches, shallow and square for rings and cufflinks, deeper and open for bulkier pieces and sunglasses. Lined compartments matter here in a way they do not in a kitchen, because the things in them scratch.
Is a lit drawer worth it?
For watches and the pieces you are choosing between, yes — covered on wardrobe lighting. A glazed lit drawer turns storage into display, and it is the one fitting in a robe that people show other people. For everyday jewellery it is an indulgence and we will say so.
Which drawers are worth doing?
The top one, always, because it is the one you open daily. Beyond that it depends on how much small, loose, scratchable material you own. Most people do one and are glad of it; a few do three.
How does it arrive?
Flat packed it arrives with the cabinet it belongs to and you fit it as you build that cabinet. Ordered delivered assembled, it is fitted and adjusted before the carton is closed.
Why this matters when you pick who builds it
None of this is exotic. It is the ordinary detail of specifying joinery properly, and the reason it is written down is that most quotes do not account for any of it. Someone who has not thought about the drop height on your rail, the clearance your drawer needs or where the mirror sits when it is open will still quote you a number — it will just be a number for a robe that works less well than it could have. We draw these decisions into the plan before anything is cut. That is what you are choosing when you choose who to buy from.
- Cut to the drawer, wall to wall
- Compartments sized by shape, not category
- Lined where the contents scratch
- Specified per drawer, not per robe
- Quoted as its own line

Frequently asked
Jewellery and accessory inserts — questions
If your question is not here, call the studio. We would rather talk it through than have you guess.
Ask us directly →Are fitted wardrobe drawer inserts worth it?
For the drawer you open daily, almost always. A tray cut to the drawer does not travel when it closes, which is the one complaint people have about shop-bought ones.
How should jewellery drawer compartments be divided?
By shape rather than category — long and thin for chains and watches, shallow for rings, deeper for bulkier pieces.
Should the compartments be lined?
In a wardrobe, yes. Unlike kitchen inserts, the contents scratch.
Can I do just one drawer?
Yes. They are specified per drawer, so most people do the top one only.
In their words
The people who already
cook in one.
“For what we paid compared to what similar kitchens were costing elsewhere, we’re extremely happy with it.”
Rockhampton
“Could not be happier with our kitchen. The funny thing is, pretty much everyone who’s come over since we installed it has asked who did our kitchen and assumed we spent a lot more than we actually did.”
Gladstone
“Once we saw it in person, it was a pretty easy decision. It looked even better than we expected.”
